The Gears E-Day news cycle is now in the final pre-launch stretch. The game releases globally on October 6, 2026, while Premium and Collector's Edition early access begins October 1. The August multiplayer beta is over, the Gamescom campaign hands-on has happened, the latest major story trailer is live, the official PC requirements are published, and the September 4 Official Xbox Podcast added the clearest campaign explanation yet for Vraahk, the Scorched Legion, Kalona, and the emotional direction of the story.
This page is a rolling timeline rather than a duplicate of every guide on the site. The goal is to answer two questions: what changed, and when did it become official?
September 4: Vraahk and the campaign get a deeper explanation
The latest major editorial update comes from the September 4 Official Xbox Podcast with Creative Director Matt Searcy and Campaign Design Director Raul Figueroa.
The discussion gives the clearest official description yet of Vraahk, a Locust Blight Commander who was injured during the underground Lambent War and now leads the elite Scorched Legion. Vraahk is positioned as a major campaign antagonist, but the available material still does not justify calling him the confirmed final boss.
The podcast also explains why Kalona matters. The Coalition wants the city to feel inhabited before and during its destruction, rather than beginning with a world that has already been ruined for years. The campaign therefore stays focused on one city over roughly three intense nights, letting landmarks, civilians, COG positions, and neighborhoods become familiar as the Locust attack escalates.
For the full narrative context, use the Gears E-Day story guide and Vraahk guide.
PC requirements are now official
One important correction to older E-Day news coverage is that the PC system requirements are no longer unknown.
The current Steam listing publishes both minimum and recommended hardware. The baseline includes 12 GB RAM, 130 GB of SSD storage, DirectX 12, and a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU. The recommended tier moves to 16 GB RAM and stronger RTX/Radeon hardware.
The current official PC picture also includes:
- Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12;
- hardware ray-traced lighting, reflections and shadows;
- NVIDIA DLSS 4.5;
- Dynamic Multi Frame Generation on supported hardware;
- NVIDIA Reflex;
- AMD FSR "Redstone";
- Intel XeSS;
- Unreal Engine TSR;
- Variable Rate Shading;
- a built-in benchmark; and
- ultrawide support, including 21:9 and 32:9.
The Steam requirements do not attach a guaranteed resolution/FPS target to every hardware tier, so a minimum GPU should not be advertised as proof of a specific 1080p or 60 FPS result.
For the full table, see the system requirements guide and PC graphics guide.
August 25: campaign hands-on and Official Story Trailer
Gamescom was the biggest campaign-information milestone after the June reveal.
The August 25 campaign preview begins near the start of Act 2. Kalona City Hall has become a temporary COG command center and medical triage point, and Bravo Squad — Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, Mags Carter, and Lucas Reyes — is assembled there.
The preview then confirms additional places and systems:
- Rail Station;
- Oria Stadium;
- Tai Kaliso and Theta Squad;
- Prototype Chainsaw Lancer;
- a tourist map used as an in-game navigation aid;
- wider areas within an otherwise linear story; and
- at least one optional side mission in Chapter 2.
The Official Story Trailer, also released August 25, is currently the newest major official trailer. It places Vraahk and the Scorched Legion more directly into the campaign marketing.

August beta: finished, not upcoming
The multiplayer beta ran across two windows:
- August 6–10: Early Access Beta;
- August 13–17: wider Open Beta.
Both weekends are over. The public test focused on 12-player Horde Siege and 4v4 Versus, not Campaign.
This matters because old store pages and older search results can still make the beta look current. A product page remaining online is not evidence that the servers are open again. No additional public beta is announced in the official sources used for this update.
The next confirmed access dates are October 1 for eligible Premium/Collector players and October 6 for the standard global release.
July 30: multiplayer became fully defined
The Multiplayer Deep Dive established E-Day's online identity.
Horde Siege is a 12-player cooperative PvE mode with three squads of four sharing a larger Kalona battlefield. It includes Assault, Breacher, Marksman and Medic classes, Energy, Supply Caches, Weapon Parts, mods, COG-tag revives, multiple objective types, difficulty progression, invasion events, and extraction.
Versus is deliberately different. The confirmed launch modes are all 4v4, players start with equal equipment, and Weapon Mods are disabled. The launch modes are Team Deathmatch, Conquest, Demolition and Crucible, with six launch maps: Outpost, Battleship, Park, Precinct, Market and Skyward.
The full multiplayer guide and Horde Siege guide carry the mechanical detail.
July 31: movement and enemies were clarified
The official gameplay update added unusually specific movement rules.
The Coalition says the cover and movement sandbox was rebuilt from scratch. Sprint, slide, slide shooting, jump/climb traversal, cover gaps and more varied cover are all part of the new system. Cover entry can only be cancelled near the destination, within roughly 1.5 meters, and the studio summarizes its intent as “No more hyper-bouncing.”
This does not mean all advanced movement has been removed. It means the game is trying to keep speed while making movement commitment and direction more readable.
The same update also details redesigned Wretches, Drones, Boomers, Seeders and Reavers, along with new Hollow creatures that have not yet all been named.
June: release date, editions, platforms and the Direct
The June 7 Xbox Games Showcase and E-Day Direct transformed the project from a 2024 announcement into a fully dated product.
Confirmed launch information now includes:
- October 6, 2026 global release;
- October 1 Premium/Collector early access;
- Xbox Series X|S;
- Xbox on PC / Microsoft Store;
- Steam;
- cloud;
- Xbox Play Anywhere;
- Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass day-one access.
The current US pricing is $69.99 Standard, $99.99 Premium, $30 Premium Upgrade, and $299.99 Collector's Edition.
The Collector's Edition includes physical collectibles and Premium digital content. The Xbox Series X package includes a physical disc, while the Steam package delivers the game through a digital token.
2024: the original reveal
E-Day was first announced on June 9, 2024. The reveal established the concept that still defines the final marketing cycle: younger Marcus and Dom, Emergence Day itself, the first Locust attack, and a return to the horror and weight associated with the earliest Gears tone.
At that time, most of the details listed above did not exist publicly. There was no October 2026 date, no Horde Siege breakdown, no Vraahk, no PC requirements, and no four-person Bravo Squad reveal.
That is why old reveal articles should be treated as historical snapshots, not as current product summaries.

What is still not confirmed?
The unknown list is much smaller than it was earlier in the year, but some details still need official evidence:
- complete Campaign mission count;
- final Campaign runtime;
- complete boss and enemy roster;
- exact worldwide unlock clock for every region/storefront;
- complete post-launch season-by-season roadmap;
- every launch weapon stat and Weapon Mod value; and
- any unannounced future platform version.
A useful news page should shrink this list when new evidence appears instead of keeping old “unknown” claims forever.

Bottom line
Gears of War: E-Day is now a mostly defined pre-launch product rather than a collection of teasers. Release timing, editions, platforms, PC requirements, Campaign structure, movement, Horde Siege, Versus and the central Locust antagonist are all substantially documented.
The most useful remaining news will be launch-specific: exact unlock timing, final patch/support notes, last-minute store changes, complete Campaign details and the first post-launch roadmap information. Until those arrive, the verified picture is already strong enough for players to plan hardware, platform, edition and multiplayer choices without relying on speculation.
