Gears E-Day Missions: Campaign Route, Horde Siege Objectives & Walkthrough Status

Track confirmed Gears E-Day campaign missions, Act 2 locations, optional side content, Horde Siege playlists, objective types, extraction rules, and what the full walkthrough still does not reveal.

Gears of War: E-Day now has enough official mission information to separate two very different systems: the story campaign and Horde Siege. The Campaign still does not have a complete public chapter list, but Xbox's August 2026 hands-on preview confirms a substantial slice of Act 2, including Kalona City Hall, a bridge-access objective, Oria Stadium, a rail-station operation, Supply Caches, Weapon Mods, a tourist map that becomes the in-game map, and at least one optional side mission in Chapter 2. Horde Siege is even more fully documented, with three mission playlists, five launch objective types, Secondary Objectives, Invasion Events, extraction, shared Energy, Weapon Parts, and class progression.

Gears E-Day mission structure showing confirmed Campaign locations and Horde Siege playlists

The key point is that E-Day does not currently have an official full campaign walkthrough or final mission count. Any page claiming every chapter, mission name, boss order, or ending before launch should be treated cautiously unless it is backed by a current official source. What we can do today is map the confirmed Campaign route shown publicly and document the Horde Siege mission loop in detail.

What campaign missions are confirmed in Gears E-Day?

The strongest official evidence comes from Xbox Wire's August 25 campaign hands-on. The playable preview begins at the opening of Act 2, only hours after the Locust first erupt onto the surface. Kalona is already collapsing into emergency military control, but the city is not yet the devastated ruin familiar from later Gears history.

The preview confirms this general sequence:

Campaign location or stepWhat the official preview establishes
Kalona City HallTemporary COG command center and medical triage site; Bravo Squad officially assembles here.
Strategy briefingMarcus, Dom, Mags Carter, and Lucas Reyes receive orders amid tension between Kalona's mayor and Colonel Trench.
Bridge-access objectiveBravo Squad leaves City Hall and is sent to secure access to a bridge.
Civilian train sequenceThe squad passes through a Locust-infested train containing civilian casualties, reinforcing the scale of the disaster.
Oria StadiumAct 2, Chapter 2 location used as a military FOB; Bravo Squad meets Tai Kaliso and Theta Squad.
Prototype Chainsaw LancerIntroduced at Oria Stadium as a rough combination of a standard Lancer and an old chainsaw.
Rail StationBravo Squad later moves to secure the station after picking up a tourist map of Kalona.
Optional side missionChapter 2 contains at least one optional mission where Bravo Squad can stop to help another COG team before continuing the main objective.

This is enough to confirm that E-Day's Campaign missions are more flexible than a narrow corridor-to-corridor sequence, but not enough to call the game a traditional open world. Xbox Wire explicitly describes the structure around the optional Chapter 2 activity as part of an otherwise linear story. Kalona opens up in places, and the tourist pamphlet becomes a functional in-game map, but the evidence still points to a structured Campaign with broader spaces and optional detours rather than a fully open-world mission board.

For the location-level breakdown, see the Kalona guide and the dedicated Campaign Preview guide.

Act 2 starts at Kalona City Hall

The preview's opening is useful because it tells us what a real E-Day Campaign mission looks like beyond trailers. Kalona City Hall has been turned into a COG base of operations, part command center and part medical triage station. Marcus and Dom join newcomers Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes, formally creating Bravo Squad.

The team attends a strategy meeting with Kalona's mayor and Colonel Trench. The disagreement between civilian survival priorities and military objectives sets up the tone of the mission before any shooting starts. Bravo Squad then provides personal information and next-of-kin details to Captain Akila Grey before heading back into the city.

The next objective is to secure access to a bridge. This section throws the player back into combat against Drones, Wretches, and Boomers while demonstrating that the Locust are not simply passive targets. The preview describes enemies retreating into cover, flanking, using smoke, and forcing the squad to react to threats from several directions.

That matters for a mission guide because Campaign objectives are not just waypoint chores. E-Day is using each objective to introduce the Locust as a new and poorly understood enemy. Bravo Squad is learning what these creatures are while fighting them, which turns normal combat progression into part of the story itself.

Oria Stadium and the Chainsaw Lancer origin mission

Act 2, Chapter 2 takes Bravo Squad to Oria Stadium, a Kalona landmark converted into a forward operating base. This is one of the most important confirmed Campaign locations because it connects several major story threads.

At the stadium, Bravo Squad links up with Tai Kaliso and Theta Squad. During a break in the fighting, the group is introduced to the Prototype Chainsaw Lancer. The weapon is not presented as the polished iconic Lancer from later games. It is a rough battlefield prototype assembled from a standard Lancer and an old chainsaw, then handed to Bravo Squad for practical testing.

This scene is important for players looking up “Gears E-Day missions” because it shows that some Campaign objectives are designed around franchise-origin moments rather than simply moving from firefight to firefight. The mission structure can pause for character interactions, squad downtime, lore reveals, and equipment introductions before returning to combat.

Rail Station mission, Supply Caches, and the in-game map

Later in the preview, Bravo Squad grabs a tourist map of Kalona and uses it as a makeshift guide. That pamphlet becomes the actual in-game map as the city opens into a wider space.

The next main objective is to secure a nearby rail station. Along the way, the preview confirms several systems that matter for future walkthroughs:

  • Supply Caches can refill ammunition and let you change your loadout.
  • Weapon Mods can be equipped during Campaign play.
  • The city map supports navigation through broader sections of Kalona.
  • Other COG squads are active in nearby districts, making Bravo Squad one part of a larger battle.
  • Chapter 2 includes at least one optional side mission that can interrupt the main route.

The rail-station fight itself is described as a brutal, multi-level encounter. That suggests future walkthroughs will need to cover vertical positioning, enemy pressure, loadout decisions, and optional routes rather than only listing objective names.

What is still missing is the complete Campaign mission list. We do not yet know the final number of acts, every chapter name, every objective, the exact order of all locations, or the total Campaign length from official launch documentation.

Gears of War: E-Day Gameplay Demo Reveal

Does Gears E-Day have side missions?

Yes, at least one optional Campaign side mission is officially confirmed. Xbox Wire says that in Chapter 2, Bravo Squad can stop to help another team with a problem before returning to the main objective.

That is an important distinction. Earlier E-Day information made it easy to assume the entire Campaign would follow a strictly linear corridor structure. The hands-on preview now confirms that there are optional activities inside the larger Campaign flow.

However, one confirmed side mission does not establish a giant side-quest system. There is no official count for optional missions, no published quest log, no confirmed open-world progression structure, and no evidence that every chapter offers side content. The safe conclusion is that E-Day contains structured Campaign missions with some optional side content and wider exploratory spaces.

Horde Siege missions are much more fully documented

While the Campaign mission list remains incomplete, Horde Siege has a clearly defined mission system. Horde Siege is a 12-player PvE mode built around three four-player COG squads operating across larger sections of Kalona.

Each squad enters with its own mission. The teams can cross paths, affect the same battlefield, use resources left by other squads, and respond to global Invasion Events. The result is closer to a rolling cooperative battle than a traditional single-lane Horde match.

The three launch mission playlists are:

PlaylistStructureApproximate duration
Blitz1–2 objectives; designed for a short run15–20 minutes
SiegeMultiple objectives with more traversal20–40 minutes
HordeDefend one location through 10 increasingly difficult wavesUp to 50–60 minutes

These are mission formats, not difficulty tiers. Difficulty is selected separately and scales around class progression.

The five confirmed Horde Siege objective types

Most Horde Siege missions revolve around a R.I.G., short for Resonation Imaging Geographer. The device was originally used to locate underground Imulsion pockets and has been repurposed to map Locust tunnels under Kalona.

The five launch objective types are:

ObjectiveMission goal
SecureDrive Locust forces out of an area important to Kalona's defense.
CalibrateHold a series of zones while a R.I.G. prepares to scan Locust territory.
RepairRecover scattered parts and reinstall them on a damaged R.I.G.
DefendProtect an active R.I.G. until its mapping sequence completes.
HordeDefend one R.I.G. through 10 waves of increasing difficulty.

The Coalition says more objective types are planned after launch.

For the complete mode explanation, see the Horde Siege guide and game modes guide.

Secondary Objectives and why extraction matters

Horde Siege also includes Secondary Objectives. These optional tasks can reward Weapon Parts, free equipment, and Squad Perks. Official examples include defusing Locust explosives, eliminating High Value Targets, collecting COG intel, and delivering a Power Core to another squad's R.I.G.

The risk is that optional tasks can consume health, ammunition, Energy, and time before extraction.

Weapon Parts are especially important because they are used to purchase unlocked Weapon Mods. But they are not permanently kept just because you picked them up. To retain collected Weapon Parts, at least one member of your squad must successfully extract and complete the mission.

After the main objectives, the squad must clear a landing zone and survive until a Raven arrives. Technically, one surviving player is enough to complete the mission. If the squad fails to clear the zone or misses the extraction window, the run fails.

That makes extraction part of the core mission strategy rather than a cosmetic ending animation.

Invasion Events can change every squad's mission

Horde Siege missions are not isolated from the rest of the battlefield. Invasion Events can affect all squads at once with enemies such as the Corpser or Brumak and temporary global modifiers.

These events can disable Supply Caches, block extraction, and create a reason for several squads to converge on the same threat. Supporting enemies can also appear alongside the major creature, so a mission that begins as a straightforward R.I.G. defense can escalate into a much larger battle.

This is one reason Horde Siege should not be described as three completely separate four-player sessions running beside one another. The mode is designed around multiple squads influencing the same persistent combat space.

Gears E-Day mission FAQ

How many Campaign missions are in Gears E-Day?

The final Campaign mission count has not been officially published as of September 6, 2026. The August hands-on confirms part of Act 2 and several locations, but not the full chapter list.

What Campaign missions have been shown?

The confirmed preview path includes Kalona City Hall, a bridge-access objective, Oria Stadium, a rail-station operation, and at least one optional Chapter 2 side mission. A complete mission order has not been published.

Does Gears E-Day have side quests?

At least one optional side mission is confirmed in Chapter 2. That does not prove a traditional open-world quest system or reveal how many optional missions exist across the full Campaign.

Is Oria Stadium a Campaign mission location?

Yes. Act 2, Chapter 2 takes Bravo Squad to Oria Stadium, where the team meets Tai Kaliso and Theta Squad and encounters the Prototype Chainsaw Lancer.

What are the Horde Siege mission playlists?

Blitz, Siege, and Horde. Blitz generally lasts 15–20 minutes, Siege 20–40 minutes, and Horde can run up to roughly 50–60 minutes.

What are the Horde Siege objective types?

Secure, Calibrate, Repair, Defend, and Horde are the five launch archetypes.

Does every mission end with extraction?

The extraction rule applies to Horde Siege, not to the Campaign as a universal rule. Horde Siege squads complete main objectives, clear a landing zone, and survive until their Raven arrives.

What is still unconfirmed?

Despite the new Campaign preview, several details remain unpublished:

  • final Campaign mission count;
  • complete act and chapter list;
  • every mission title;
  • full mission order;
  • total Campaign length;
  • all optional side missions;
  • complete collectible list;
  • complete boss progression; and
  • the ending and final mission.

Those gaps are expected this close to launch. They are not invitations to fill the page with leaked or guessed chapter names.

Bottom line

The Gears E-Day mission structure is now much clearer than it was earlier in 2026. The Campaign preview confirms a real Act 2 route through Kalona City Hall, bridge-access combat, Oria Stadium, and the Rail Station, plus a Chapter 2 optional side mission and wider navigation through Kalona. At the same time, the story remains fundamentally structured rather than a traditional open world, and the complete Campaign mission list is still unreleased.

Horde Siege is already documented in much greater detail: three playlists, five launch objective types, Secondary Objectives, Energy, Weapon Parts, global Invasion Events, and a final extraction where survival determines whether your squad keeps key rewards.

For now, use this page as a verified mission hub, not a pretend launch walkthrough. Once the complete Campaign chapter list is officially available, this is the page that should expand into the full mission-order and walkthrough index.
